Policy of imperialism and colonial exploitation in the Philippines or elsewhere, and favor an immediate declaration of the purpose of the people of the United States to recognize the independence of the Philippine Islands at a definite date to be fixed by Congress, retaining for ourselves such lands as are necessary for naval bases and coaling stations, and we urge upon our Government earnest effort to secure by treaty with the chief maritime powers the neutralization of the islands under a government to be established under American auspices by their people.

  • Excerpt from The Tradition of the Goddess Fortuna in Roman Literature and in the Transitional Period The purpose of this essay is to study the nature and functions of the Goddess of Fortune in Roman literature and the literature of the transitional period.1 The frequent appearance of this figure in documents of the Middle Ages is well-known, although, perhaps, not adequately appreciated.

It is well-known, too, that the goddess existed in earlier days in Rome, and was actually wor shipped as a prominent member of the pantheon. She is important, therefore, as a deity who was taken over after the transition from a polytheistic to a monotheistic religion, and her interest thus becomes twofold.

Traits of the goddess in Rome, Which were re ected in the literature, would naturally survive in the literary treatment of later ages. This fact would suggest the possibility that some of the Old religious feeling might be retained in the Christian period. Book The Tradition of the Goddess Fortuna in Roman Literature and in the Transitional Period (Classic Reprint) Are the references to Fortuna in the Middle Ages simply orna mental and perfunctory, or has She inspired fresh imaginative endeavor? Does She appear in only one sort of literature: for example, as a lay figure in a Classical background? Or is she a vital element in every variety of plot?

Where precisely does the change from religion to allegory occur, or indeed does it really occur at all? Download The Spirit of the Serb (Classic Reprint) For so far as this war is concerned, the proverb is thoroughly typical of the bravery and stubborn self-reliance with which they have held their own for the past seven months.

When war first broke out, those of us who were interested in Serbia and the Balkans felt it almost necessary to apologize for the importance of the south-eastern front and Serbias share in the war. At first we were, naturally enough, engrossed with the western theatre of war, where our own gallant tr00ps are fighting; and many of us were apt to forget that besides Belgium, which has suffered so terribly or. An unusually warm spell of weather in the Land of Westerlyn has caused glaciers to melt revealing caves that have been cut off for centuries. Thirty foot prehistoric monsters have re-emerged and are attacking towns and villages in the east of the country.

Mr and Mrs Bartholomews plans for a carefree family holiday on the Isle of Lewis fall flat when they receive an urgent message asking for their help. The children are left behind on the Isle of Lewis temporarily while their parents and grandmother rush off to help the Snee Menesker of Westerlyn. About The Secret of Whitewitch Mountain: The Adventures of Quentin Bartholomew Part 3 The children wait impatiently on the Isle of Lewis for their grandmother to return and ignore warnings not to use any magic.

They have a go at trying to create their own time portals with disastrous consequences and it is up to big brother Qadir to come to the rescue once again. It soon becomes apparent that the appearance of the prehistoric monsters is not a side-effect of global warming after all but the work of something or someone far more powerful and sinister. It isnt long before the children are called upon to join their parents and grandmother in what soon becomes one of the greatest battles against evil.

When the War of Westerlyn gets underway Qadir, Luna and Queen Valda find themselves on the wrong side of the border between Westerlyn and the Wolfhaven, home to the tribe of evil landga wolves and other foul creatures. Their journey into the heart of the evil land known as Whitewitch Mountain uncovers great secrets which have remained hidden in the dark shadows for many years.

Only time will tell if all members of the family make it home safely to Castle Draccwyne but one thing is for sure, life for the Royal Family of Ordania will never be the same again. This is the ultimate test of Qadirs strength and courage and he learns that the only way to truly combat evil is to show no fear and look it straight in the eye.

Shine the light of the stars in the darkest of places and you will see that even the most powerful of evil spells can be overcome.
