  • Excerpt from Index to the Contents of the Cole Manuscripts in the British Museum Cole bequeathed his collections to the British Museum on condition that they should not be opened for twenty years after his death. The volumes are now among the Additional mss., where they are numbered 5798 to 5887, 5952 to 5962, 5992 to 5994, 6034, 6035, 6037, 6151, 6396 to 6402. A List of the Contents was made by Sir F.

Madden and included in the Index to the Additional mss. Acquired 1783 – 1835, printed in 1849. About Index to the Contents of the Cole Manuscripts in the British Museum (Classic Reprint) The late George Alfred Matthew, of Cambridge, realizing the importance of this collection to the locality, had a Copy made of this List, which, after his death, was presented to the Cambridge University Library by his widow. The present Index is made from this transcript, and gives a direct reference to the volume and folio in the collection.
